Fine Arts

Visual Art at North Metro TAFE is now in its second century, offering both the familiar VET certificates and Diploma courses in addition to new Higher Education programs. The Associate Degree of Visual Art [ADVA] is a studio-based program which develops the skills, knowledge and attributes required of practitioners in visual art today. The course focuses on learning through practice and the production of a body of work situated in contemporary critical frameworks. Process is emphasised with students extending and refining individual ideas, forms and images from extensive visual inquiry, analysis and experimentation. They generate alternative solutions to conceptual and visual problems, and resolve the work in response to specific criteria in a brief.

Health safety and sustainability are essential to the acquisition of professional visual art skills and knowledge. The Associate Degree of Visual Art includes specialised studio units in Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Media Arts, Printmaking and Ceramics, backed by units in Art Theory, Visual Culture and Professional Practice. The course also facilitates a multi-disciplinary approach which may include video, photomedia, performance, installation and other possibilities.
