Faculty of Fine Arts and Music
Home of the Victorian College of the Arts
The Faculty of Fine Arts and Music is home to the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) and the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. The VCA offers a suite of undergraduate and graduate study options in visual art, film and television, animation, screenwriting, dance, acting, theatre, production and design, music theatre, and more. Situated in the heart of Melbourne's Arts Precinct, classes are taught in specialist facilities and a collaborative, professionally-focused environment. Nowhere in Australia offers training in so many artistic disciplines on a campus surrounded by the country’s leading arts companies, venues and festivals.
The VCA celebrated 150 years of teaching art in 2017. Our graduates and staff include renowned contemporary artists. The Faculty is currently undergoing development of art spaces, expanding the Faculty’s footprint in the heart of the arts precinct, in one of most artistically vibrant cities in the world. You will be given a studio to work from independently, and will develop studio projects that require investigation and experimentation. You are expected to engage critically with your peers and staff. During semester, we have weekly student exhibitions and artist talks, and your course culminates in the hugely popular end-of-year graduate exhibition.
